JAM SESSION

A kiosk proposed to welcome guests in Astoria Queens’ Socrates Sculpture Park. Made with salvaged materials from adjacent factory sites as well as new aluminum frames and windows. We wanted to highlight the Jazz greats who lived in the neighborhood like Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald. In so doing we created an very small capsule with a big sound to create a sense of inclusivity for the famed diversity of Queens, where people speak more languages per block than anywhere else in the world! .The tiny kiosk suggests sounds of improvisational jazz, a kind of frozen music.
